Adjusting Plans to Meet Goals

We are approaching the month of September. I took a couple of extra days off for Labor Day in hopes that I could travel to Canada. However, I recently paid more than $700 when my A/C crapped out on me just this last month. Plus, I’ve paid an uncomfortable amount of money for some Continuing Education programs with the St. Louis Community College and still haven’t touched much of my remaining credit card balance from my trip to Japan earlier this year. I’ve decided to bite the bullet and eat at my savings in order to pay off the full amount and start with a clean slate. Thankfully, the payments were all on a credit card with a 0% introductory rate, so I didn’t have to pay the exorbitant interest payments. I have more time, but I’d rather just take the financial hit and move on with a renewed vigor to stave off new short-term debts.

Since this is going to be a painful payment, though, I’m far less inclined to travel than I was when I requested the time off. So instead of sightseeing, I’ll be working on some projects around the house and forcing myself to do some much-needed writing. I might take my pup Lexi to a different state park for an overnight or day trip, but I’m mostly intent on getting work done that I’ve been pushing off for too long. I also plan to officially transition Domain ownership of this site to the company like I meant to a while ago. With that change, I’m going to invest some time in giving the website a much-needed overhaul and begin some additional creative projects. I’m planning to set up a pair of pages for webcomics: one will be goofy nonsense, and the other will focus on political and religious commentary. I wanted to separate the two in case some readers don’t want to get inundated with a bunch of political posts in a row should those be inspired en masse.

Keep in mind, though, that I’m a complete beginner in terms of all things art. Even as a writer, I’ve been away from the craft for so long that I feel like a complete noob. I’ll be happy if my webcomics end up more complex than stick figures.

What’s a hobby you’ve always wished you could start but could never quite got moving? It could be a single thought you had as a kid, or a future goal you’re still trying to push yourself to accomplish. Sometimes I’m bombarded with so many ideas that I get paralyzed just trying to pick one to start. But this? I can do this. I have to. I want to be more productive with my creativity than I’ve ever let myself be before. And it starts with knowing and accepting that I’m going to have to be bad at it before I can get better.
